MEV bible addon?

Post by Radim »

Hello,
I just found this interesting bible. I often use YLT or KJV and the MEV is interesting addition because it is written in modern English (to me it is better because I am not native English speaker). Is there chance we could get this as theWord module?

The Word is not printed bible, so maybe could be a change to have it there?

All information I have is here
https://www.biblegateway.com/versions/M ... ible/#copy

Quote:
"Scripture taken from the Modern English Version. Copyright © 2014 by Military Bible Association. Used by permission. All rights reserved."

"For quotation requests not covered by the above guidelines, write to Passio, ATTN: Bible Rights and Permissions, 600 Rinehart Road, Lake Mary, FL 32746."

Military Bible Association have a website, but I was not going to contact them because they wanted my phone number. I do not live in USA. I am from Europe.

But I look for free bible because I just don't have money for this payed addons. In fact I wanted a text file to make some comparison* between YLT and KJV, so if I do not have the txt, it is useless for me. As I am trying my best with Delphi to make such comparison program.

Note: * - The idea is to find some major differences, which is a bit complicated task, not suitable for theWord. But the result could be useful for me after I see the results.

Does your code compare between verses? Or how does it work? I've worked with comparing code so I am curious

You need to use https://ebible.org/study/ or biblewebapp/study for comparison of versions. But MEV does not exist in them. There are many better and free options for modern english like WEB, NHEB all based on the ASV text revisions, free. You can compare them to KJV. But, if you are trying to study the bible and learn translations, I suggest you to learn Greek and read books about these things from reputable latest authors, rather than comparing outdated bible versions and consulting interlinears without knowledge of translation.

The current English Version claims to be a clear, reverent, and accurate translation of the Bible into current English. It frequently succeeds in obtaining formal correspondencmini crossworde while being readable. The MEV's purpose of maintaining close to the wording of the King James Version occasionally results in a verse that does not sound totally current, but this is rare.

If someone wants to work on the MEV using TotheWord (TTW) they are welcome to. There are examples in the Examples>Bibles in TTW.
We are spread very thin and time is hard to come by.

Outdated bible versions? What do you mean? The greek or hebrew/aramaic text, you call outdated? Or do you speak about bible translations?

Currently I love NIV version.

I meant the KJV, by outdated. Don't stick with MEV if you dont have it, there are free and better versions like ESV, NHEB, WEB. ESV has been based on the critical text; and NHEB/WEB on the byzantine text type version, perhaps close to the Revised Version.
