He has pastored four Baptist churches in Bristol, Porthcawl, Cradley and Dunstable, the last for 27 years. After 42 years in the pastorate he retired from full time ministry, and has continued to preach, lecture and write. Approximately one hundred years after Jonah preached to the citizens of Nineveh to turn 'from their evil ways' and escape imminent judgement, God commissioned Nahum to prophesy the city's complete destruction. At the time of his 'burden', the Assyrian Empire was both strong and wealthy, yet Nahum prophesied that soon the entire kingdom would be crushed forever under the power of God's wrath.

From the opening sentence: 'The LORD is a jealous and avenging God filled with wrath' to the poignant conclusion: 'Nothing can heal your wound; your injury is fatal', the fury, the omnipotence, the righteousness, the faithfulness of God are strikingly portrayed. Nineveh will fall, not because of the might of other nations, but because the Holy One of Israel 'takes vengeance on his foes'.

Obadiah

Obadiah's prophecy unveils God's sovereignty over all nations and events, and gives an example of his direct intervention in the political and military affairs of human history. The Sovereign LORD does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: 'What have you done?'

It is the God of history who summons and equips the nations to destroy the Edomites for their arrogance and violence against their brother Jacob. It is the Judge and Ruler of mankind who gives the Edomites no hope of salvation. It is 'the great King over all the earth' who, in accordance with his everlasting covenant, delivers the house of Jacob from their enemies and reunites them with their northern brothers.

Both prophecies are a revelation of God's character and his moral government of the world - a revelation that contains a message of hope, comfort and encouragement for every Christian: 'THE LORD REIGNS FOR EVER'! It matters not how many nations oppose his rule or oppress his people; it makes no difference how many spiritual forces of evil ally themselves for his dethronement, for the Lord's purposes will prevail. All that he has promised will be fulfilled. He is in control. His dominion is an eternal dominion

The Bible is the infallible, everlasting Word of God. The Bible is about the Son of God, Who became Man to die on the cross for sinful people. God raised Him from the dead and He is now in heaven. Anyone who confesses his sins and believes in the Son and His work of atonement on the cross will not perish but receive eternal life. Such a person is a child of God. God tells His children in His Word how to live to His glory and all that He intends to give them, because of their connection to His Son.

About the Author Ger de Koning

Born in the Netherlands in 1948, born again in 1966. Sport was my passion. That it was also for some time after my conversion, until, about 1970, I saw the Lord Jesus had a right on my whole life. Since that full surrender the Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God are my passion. Reading and studying God's Word gave me a deep desire to preach and share God’s Word both in teaching the believers to the edification of the church of God, with an especial care for young believers and in the preaching of the gospel to unbelievers.

This resulted in the writing of simple but not superficial exegesis of all the books of the Bible as well as on different Biblical topics. Of them a lot are translated in other languages. Further, there are a lot of opportunities to teach the Word of God in addresses, Bible readings and on conferences in the Netherlands and abroad.

The Lord has given me a wife, Willy, who is a great help to me. Without her I wouldn’t be able to do this work. We married in 1975. The Lord gave us six children and twenty-one grandchildren.

The whole Bible is a splendid book and it’s my prayer that you’ll get this impression in an increasing way.

The book of Numbers tells a story that has two main characters—God and Israel. The way the story is told sounds odd and often harsh to readers today. Inleiding

Het doel van dit commentaar is mensen aan te moedigen de Bijbel te lezen. Het commentaar is oorspronkelijk gepubliceerd op de website www.kingcomments.com. Van alle Bijbelboeken is een commentaar beschikbaar. De commentaren zijn bedoeld om te helpen de Bijbel persoonlijk te bestuderen. De Bijbelcitaten die in de commentaren voluit geschreven zijn, komen uit de Herziene Statenvertaling als het een citaat uit het Oude Testament betreft en uit de TELOS-vertaling als het een citaat uit het Nieuwe Testament betreft.

De commentaren over Job, Psalmen en Jesaja zijn samen met Tony Jonathan geschreven. Het commentaar over Ezechiël is geschreven in nauwe samenwerking met Ron Vellekoop.

De Bijbel is het onfeilbare, eeuwige Woord van God. De Bijbel gaat over de Zoon van God, Die Mens werd om aan het kruis te sterven voor zondige mensen. God heeft Hem opgewekt uit de dood en Hij is nu in de hemel. Ieder die zijn zonden belijdt en gelooft in de Zoon en Zijn verzoeningswerk op het kruis, zal niet verloren gaan, maar ontvangt het eeuwige leven. Zo iemand is een kind van God. God vertelt Zijn kinderen in Zijn Woord hoe zij tot Zijn eer kunnen leven en alles wat Hij van plan is hun te geven, vanwege hun verbinding met Zijn Zoon.

Ik ben geboren in 1948 in Nederland en opnieuw geboren in 1966. Sport was mijn passie. Dat was ook na mijn bekering nog enige tijd zo, tot ik, rond 1970, zag dat de Heer Jezus recht had op mijn hele leven. Sinds die volledige overgave zijn de Heer Jezus Christus en het Woord van God mijn passie. Het lezen en bestuderen van Gods Woord gaf mij een diep verlangen om Gods Woord te prediken en te delen, zowel in het onderwijzen van de gelovigen tot opbouw van de gemeente van God, met een speciale zorg voor jonge gelovigen, als in het verkondigen van het evangelie aan ongelovigen.

Dit resulteerde in het schrijven van eenvoudige maar niet oppervlakkige verklaringen van alle Bijbelboeken en over verschillende Bijbelse onderwerpen. Daarvan zijn er meerdere in andere talen vertaald. Verder zijn er veel mogelijkheden om het Woord van God te onderwijzen in Bijbelstudies, Bijbellezingen en op conferenties in binnen- en buitenland.

De Heer heeft mij een vrouw gegeven, Willy, die een grote hulp voor mij is. Zonder haar zou ik dit werk niet kunnen doen. We zijn in 1975 getrouwd. De Heer gaf ons zes kinderen en eenentwintig kleinkinderen.

De hele Bijbel is een prachtig boek en het is mijn gebed dat jij deze indruk steeds meer zult krijgen.

Einleitung

Das Ziel der Kommentare besteht darin, das Lesen der Bibel anzuregen. Die ursprüngliche Webadresse der Kommentare ist www.kingcomments.com. Die Kommentare sind aus dem Niederländischen ins Deutsche übersetzt worden. Sie sollen das persönlich Bibelstudium unterstützen. Die Bibelzitate, die in den Kommentaren vollständig wiedergegeben sind, sind der Elberfelder Übersetzung 2009 (Edition CSV Hückeswagen) entnommen.

Die Kommentare zu den Büchern Hiob, Psalmen und Jesaja habe ich gemeinsam mit Tony Jonathan geschrieben. Der Kommentar zu Hesekiel ist in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Ron Vellekoop entstanden.

Die Bibel ist das unfehlbare, ewige Wort Gottes. In der Bibel geht es um den Sohn Gottes, der Mensch wurde, um am Kreuz für sündige Menschen zu sterben. Gott hat Ihn von den Toten auferweckt und Er ist jetzt im Himmel. Jeder, der seine Sünden bekennt und an den Sohn und sein Versöhnungswerk am Kreuz glaubt, wird nicht verlorengehen, sondern ewiges Leben empfangen. So jemand ist ein Kind Gottes. Gott unterweist seine Kinder in seinem Wort, wie sie zu seiner Ehre leben können und was sie durch ihre Verbindung mit seinem Sohn geschenkt bekommen haben.

Über den Autor Ger de Koning

Ich bin 1948 in den Niederlanden geboren und 1966 wiedergeboren. Sport war meine Leidenschaft. Das war auch noch einige Zeit nach meiner Bekehrung so, bis ich um 1970 erkannte, dass der Herr Jesus ein Recht auf mein ganzes Leben hat. Seit dieser völligen Hingabe sind der Herr Jesus Christus und das Wort Gottes meine “Leidenschaft“. Das Lesen und das Studium des Wortes Gottes hat in mir den tiefen Wunsch geweckt, Gottes Wort zu predigen und weiterzugeben, sowohl durch die Unterweisung der Gläubigen, um die Gemeinde Gottes aufzubauen, mit besonderem Schwerpunkt für junge Gläubige, als auch in der Verkündigung des Evangeliums an Ungläubige.

Dies führte dazu, einfache, aber nicht oberflächliche Erklärungen zu allen Bibelbüchern und zu verschiedenen biblischen Themen zu schreiben. Mehrere davon wurden in andere Sprachen übersetzt. Darüber hinaus gibt es viele Möglichkeiten, das Wort Gottes in Seminaren, biblischen Vorträgen und auf Konferenzen im In- und Ausland zu verkünden.

Der Herr hat mir eine Frau geschenkt, Willy, die mir eine große Hilfe ist. Ohne sie würde ich diese Arbeit nicht tun können. Wir haben 1975 geheiratet. Der Herr hat uns sechs Kinder und einundzwanzig Enkelkinder geschenkt.

Die ganze Bibel ist ein wunderbares Buch, und es ist mein Gebet, dass auch Du mehr und mehr unter diesen Eindruck kommen wirst.
